the Meet the Moment Commitment

Have questions about the Meet the Moment commitment for trust-based action? You’re not alone. Explore some of the most common questions, below.

If you have additional questions, please direct them to hello@trustbasedphilanthropy.org.

  • You should still consider signing if you feel aligned with the overall intent of the commitment. We know that there are a range of factors – from budgetary, to structural, to governance-related – that may make it difficult for some organizations to commit to the entire commitment. By signing on, you are not committing to perfection, but rather to doing everything in your power to support the nonprofit sector at this time.

  • We will connect you with others who can help. By signing, you are joining a larger community of funders who have experience operationalizing various aspects of this commitment. TBPP will host peer learning meetups, both national and regional, virtual and in-person, throughout the course of the year. We also can connect you with seasoned, TBP-aligned consultants if you are looking for more hands-on support in operationalizing aspects of the commitment.

  • There is an option to express your endorsement privately as an individual. If you do this, neither your name nor your organization’s name will appear publicly; however, you will still have the option to be connected with other signatories to get tips on meeting the moment and making the case to your organization's leadership.

  • You can sign privately. There is a field on the signatory form that will allow you to note whether or not you want your organization's name to be listed publicly. If you choose this option, you will still have the opportunity to be connected with other signatories to explore ways to work collectively to meet the moment.

  • Please make a note of that when you sign up and we will omit your city and state.

  • By signing on, you will become part of a growing network of values-aligned funders that are actively exploring opportunities to be more supportive of nonprofits in this time of urgency. It is an opportunity to affirm your commitment and values, and can be an effective tool in guiding conversations with your staff, board, and peers about how you can more effectively live into your purpose as funders.

Signatories will also be invited to join peer organizing spaces – both regionally and nationally – to stay attuned to related efforts, advocate collectively, and emerge collective possibilities. In these spaces, we will regularly share reflections and insights from both funders and nonprofit leaders, in order to continue to ensure that our collective efforts are responsive to the moment.

  • We encourage you to proactively communicate with your grantee partners when you sign on, and what you are prepared to do in support of their work. Be proactive in explaining any new offerings or opportunities that you are definitely able to provide, and be transparent about any aspects of the commitment that you may be working on implementing in the future. Emphasize what you are doing, rather than what you are unable to do. They will appreciate your clear, timely, and transparent communication.

  • The Unite in Advance pledge is complementary but distinct from the Meet the Moment commitment. Meet the Moment is predominantly focused on coordinating philanthropic action on behalf of nonprofits, whereas the Unite in Advance pledge is focused on strengthening alignment among foundations to protect the freedom to give. Both are complementary efforts to coalesce philanthropic coordination to ensure the sustainability of the social sector.
